Shapewear: It’s not just for special occasions anymore

There was a time in our history when women discreetly turned to body shapers (ie girdles, etc.) to help them smooth out their lumps and bumps. The body slimmers would help women look better on the outside and feel better on the inside. Those days are behind us.
 
Today, women proudly wear their shapewear like a badge of honor. They enjoy the fact they can have their cake and eat it too! There is much to celebrate in life. To me, my soft spots are a symbol of the many celebrations in my life - the birthday parties, the graduations, the weddings, the business successes, etc.  
 
Back in the day, women might wear special occasion shapewear to such events. You know the ones. Those dreaded body slimmers that have a three hour expiration on them. After three hours you long to get them off and BREATHE! I have these too mind you. There are times when you need to pull out the big guns for sure.

Like the rest of the world, we feel for the people of Haiti in the wake of yesterday's devastating earthquake. As you may know, we at Slimpressions shapewear are passionate about supporting Food for the Poor Inc and we have been working towards building a village in Haiti. We applaud Food for the Poor for their commitment to those in need and their ability to stretch every dollar.

Why Shapewear?

Jen and I are often asked how we got into the shapewear business. Candidly, our leap into the body shaper industry was inspired by my own personal need.  One cold winter morning, I was dropping my little ones off at preschool. I waved across the parking lot a friend who was about ten feet or so from me. When I stopped waving, however, something strange happened. Although my hand stopped waving, my arm flab did not! The embarrassing part was not the fact that I had arm flab. The embarrassing part was that I could see in my friend’s face that SHE SAW that I had arm flab. 

Now, I‘m a big fan of shapewear. No pun intended! I thought I had just about every kind of body shaper for women in my personal shapewear arsenal but I did not have anything for arm flab. What I needed was an arm slimmer! On my way home, I called Jen and asked her to Google arm shapewear and we could not find anything. Our business idea for Slimpressions® was born!
The initial idea was just an arm shaping slimmer. Basically two sleeves held together by a strip of fabric across the back. That sounded good on paper but what we found when we tested it was the fat had to go somewhere. J That “solve” was actually creating a lump somewhere else. 
Based on our consumer research, we learned that women really longed for a body shaper that slimmed and sculpted jelly belly, muffin top, back fat AND arm flab. Finding a body slimmer for the midsection that actually stayed in place had been a challenge for most women and they begged us to make one. It was not easy but after three years of development, we proudly launched our patent-pending designs The Haves and The Have Nots to meet this need.  For more information on these flagship products, please visit slimpressions.com/catalog/the-top-sleekret-collection

The Slimpressions Corporate Charity - Food for the Poor

Long before Jen and I founded Slimpressions® shapewear, we knew we were blessed.  We live in a country full of abundance.  It’s easy to take for granted all of the many blessings so many of us have…..a warm, safe place to live,  access to food and clean water, educational opportunities, religious freedom and the ability to pursue our dreams.  In addition, Jen and I are surrounded by truly amazing people in our lives including our husbands, children, extended family, friends and the entire Slimpressions shapewear team.  We are truly blessed women.     

Jen and I learned of Food for the Poor several years ago at church and we immediately fell in love with the good work this organization does.  Food for the Poor is committed to helping the poorest of the poor in the world.  They run an extremely lean operation.  Only a few cents from every dollar go towards overhead expenses.  The rest is used to help those in need.

Current conditions in many Haitian areas..

Jen and I are very proud of the fact that we’ve been able to house two families, provide livestock, school supplies, food, medicine and materials to help people to earn a livelihood in the Caribbean.  We’re well on our way toward our next goal as well.  We’re working hard to build a village in Haiti.
