My son tells me I don’t know how to blog. He says I sound like I’m writing a personal journal entry rather than writing a blog post. Honestly, I don’t know the difference! But I do know the difference between people who talk about doing things and people who actually DO the things they talk about.
Amy Pedersen and Jennifer Daniels, co-founders of Slimpressions are DO-ers! And they are doing it right! Not only do they produce an incredible line of shapewear, they are genuinely interested in making a positive impact on the whole person – the minds, bodies and attitudes of women! Naturally, that appeals to the psychologist in me! The fledgling entrepreneur in me is plain old awestruck (and a bit envious) by what these two women have accomplished!
Their recent Positive Self-Talk Challenge really excites me! I tell people all over the country that if they can work on just one thing that will have tremendous impact on their self-esteem, their outlook, their attitude and their happiness – it is to improve their self-talk! Amy was right when she said, “Sometimes, we can be our own worst enemies. We tell ourselves we’re not worthy enough, not smart enough, not pretty enough, not thin enough, not beautiful enough….not good enough. We’d never talk to our friends this way.”
I suggest becoming a really good friend to yourself and talking to yourself with the kindness and compassion you share with your other friends. Here’s the catch… it takes effort. A lot of effort! So work at it every single day. Eventually speaking and acting kindly toward yourself will become a way of life – one that you teach other women and young girls! The effort is worth it – just ask Amy and Jennifer if the effort they put into building Slimpressions was worth it!
Thank you, ladies, for all you do to support women (very punny… unoriginal, but punny, nonetheless)! And thanks for inviting me to blog/journal with you!
