Sometimes the road ahead of us looks daunting and unachievable. I know when I set out to run my first half-marathon earlier this year, the concept of 13.1 miles seemed insane to me. Shoot, when I began, I couldn’t even run 13.1 minutes no less 13.1 miles!
But I had a goal. My goal had always been to run a half-marathon before I turned 40 and time was ticking. No more excuses. I needed to take this seriously if I was serious. So I started taking proactive steps to make my goal a reality…and, surprisingly, they didn’t start with exercise.
I began at the computer by downloading a training schedule…THEN I purchased running shoes…THEN I started my training program. After successfully running/walking (and improving) for a few weeks, I had built up enough confidence to actually sign up for the race. It was on! Eight weeks later I crossed the finish line…and I can’t put in to words how good that felt. This former couch potatoe is now a half-marathoner. I didn’t set any world records but I accomplished my goal. I FINISHED A HALF-MARATHON!
I had to start somewhere though. I did not run 13.1 miles after making up my mind to do it on the first day. It took commitment and confidence. I took it one step at a time (literally and figuratively.)
The road ahead may look challenging but YOU CAN DO IT. I challenge you to take on your goals one step at a time too. When thinking about your goals, consider what steps you can take each day to get there. If your goal is weight loss, what steps are you taking to accomplish your goal? It’s often a lot more than diet and exercise. It’s a mindset, right? It’s a lifestyle. It’s about having the commitment to making healthier choices and the confidence in knowing you can do it.

The 13.1 miles ahead can seem a long way away but every time you put one foot in front of the other, you’re that much closer to achieving what you set out to do.
