Tried it Tuesday – Slimpressions

I am going to try to bring you an in-depth review of a product every Tuesday.  My product today is  Slimpressions.  This is an undergarment shapewear that is supposed to make you look slimmer.  Yay!  There are 3 differrent Slimpressions tops to choose from as well as other product, but I want to talk about 2 that I got. Skinny Minis - This is a camisole that gives you upper body control ($49) The Haves - This one slims your arms (you know…the flab that flaps when you wave), upper body, and pushes your ta-ta’s up to give you a little more cleavage($69) The Have-Nots - This slims your upper arms, upper body but scoops down below your ta-ta’s to let the real deal show for themselves($69) When my package arrived from Slimp...

  • Skinny Minis - This is a camisole that gives you upper body control ($49)
  • The Haves - This one slims your arms (you know…the flab that flaps when you wave), upper body, and pushes your ta-ta’s up to give you a little more cleavage($69)

When my package arrived from Slimpressions I was super excited! I ripped it open and pulled out 3 of the littlest pieces of fabric that I have seen since my girls were teeny-tiny. Uh-oh…how was I going to fit into one of these? Maddie laughed at the thought! They looked really short too…I hate wearing a cami that keeps riding up. I looked them over, read the directions - you have to step in to them, then slide them up. Seriously? I checked the size…yep, they sent the right size. Here goes nothing….I wiggled the Skinny Mini up and adjusted it into place. Guess what? It fit perfectly! Nice and long (it actually went down to my behind) and it felt like it was holding everything into place.  The true test would be wearing it for a while. Yesterday I put on the Have-Not to wear. This one has sleeves that go down to your elbows. I put it on and wondered if I would really be comfortable in it all day long. I liked that it felt like it was making me stand up straighter, but was worried that it would feel constricting after a while. I pulled my jeans on over it and was floored…they were very loose. The Slimpression actually made my jeans one size too big!! I’m not kidding…seriously. After wearing it for about an hour I actually forgot that I had it on and never gave it a second thought…until I received a compliment. I had two people ask me if I had lost weight, and one person tell me that my boobs looked bigger!! Again, seriously. Can you believe it? I’m sold! They are seamless, have mesh armpits, and truly hide your muffin-top.  I couldn’t even figure out where it put mine…I expected a little roll to pop out of the bottom of it…nope, it was gone! Here are pictures of them - The Halves, The Have-Not, and the Skinny Mini.  This is good stuff.

Finding Your Inner Strength

Inner Strength - SWOT
Finding your inner strength is not easy for most people. We are often consumed by the chaos around us, and tend to lose sight of what is truly important, taking care of ourselves.  Know that you are not alone. Taking care of ourselves first does not come easy for most people.  My typical day is getting the kids off to school, working full time, grocery store, getting the kids off the bus, driving everyone around to their activities, making dinner, cleaning, overseeing homework, getting the kids off to bed, etc.  Tomorrow we start all over again.  You feel exhausted and there is just not enough hours in the day. You are searching for inner strength right about now! Does any of this sound familiar? Now, let's say you are presented a cha...
Now, let's say you are presented a challenge.  What happens if you are suddenly faced with a serious illness or you have to take care of an elderly parent?  What if you need to lose weight or choose to have bariatric surgery?  What if you lose your job or your house?  What if you are going through a divorce or a close friend or family member passes away unexpectedly?  What if ... You get the picture.  Your daily routine mentioned earlier doesn't change, you just take on more and more and suddenly find yourself overwhelmed, emotional and in need of support. I get it.  I have lived this.  I am still challenged all the time.  While everyone has different beliefs, I will say we all draw strength from someone, something or from somewhere.  I call this my 3 'S.
  • Someone - yourself, your spouse, friends or family.
  • Something - reading, praying or music.
  • Somewhere - the ocean, mountains, Facebook groups, your workplace or your church.
*** On a piece of paper, list who is your someone, something and somewhere. It's important to recognize where you draw your inner strength from. Do you have those few friends who just happen to call you out of the blue when you are in your darkest hour?  Their timing is always perfect.  They cover you with prayer when you need it most and you feel so incredibly blessed and strong.   Maybe you listen to a song and it just tugs at your heart strings and you start to cry or it makes your feel like you can conquer anything.  Then there are those incredible vacations, day trips or simple walks in the park. You see flowers blooming, kids happily playing and swimming, beautiful wildlife, and you simply are at peace.  Wouldn't it be nice to never leave?  Sadly you must. Remember, you can't take care of others until you have taken care of yourself first.  How can you be a support for your friends and family when you are not in the right emotional state of mind. You can try to listen, but many times we find ourselves preoccupied with the million things racing through our head, including all the tasks we have.
  • Stop what you are doing. Yesterday is gone.  You can learn from it, but by all means move on.  Tomorrow is never guaranteed so stop worrying about it.  Live for TODAY.  Life is so very precious as we all know.  Spend every minute of TODAY making it the best TODAY you can.
  • Learn to breathe.  Pause from your daily life.  Take a few minutes or longer out for you. Do something that makes you happy.  Go to the 3 S's where you draw strength. Incorporate "ME TIME" into your daily routine.  Yes, it's ok to be selfish with your time.  Aren't YOU worth it? Don't YOU deserve it? YES should be your answer!
  • Finally, refocus your energies on to what is most important, always prioritizing. Just let go of the small stuff.
I like the acronym SWOT.  Spend some time listing what you are going through and what category it falls in. Review often.
  • Know your Strength
  • Learn from your Weaknesses
  • Overcome all Obstacles
  • Remove all Threats

Listening To Your Inner Voice

Your Inner Voice The Importance of Support We are often faced with difficult decisions. Our inner voice hints to us what we should do, yet we seek the advice of others.  While this isn’t bad, we must ask ourselves why we don’t trust the answers we hear in our hearts and minds... our inner voice.  What causes us to doubt and not trust?  Often, we are leaning on our friends, family and even support groups in search of answers.  Deep down we hope their answer is what our heart and mind already knows. What if it isn’t?  Imagine if they throw us a huge curve ball and you are left more confused than you were before.  What if they tell you something you really didn’t want to hear? The Importance of Support

We are often faced with difficult decisions.

You Asked For It… You Got It!

“Mom, do you think I should get this dress or does it make me look big?” You know you look good in it,  like the dress a lot and might even be able to imagine yourself wearing it, yet you are doubting yourself.  Assuming everyone is an adult here, you deserve to wear whatever you want and are certainly old enough to make your own decision.  Mom replies, ‘Well, it kinda buldges in the rear and your arms look bigger.”  Seriously???? Ugh, now you are feeling like you are 10 and wish you had never asked.  With this repeated behavior pattern, you fall into a state of depression.  Every time you look in the mirror, you don’t see the beautiful you that you are, rather you can’t wait until you become beautiful.

Picking Ourselves Up

At this point you need to say to yourself STOP!  Every morning before your feet hit the floor, say “I AM STRONG, I AM CONFIDENT, I AM BEAUTIFUL, I AM LOVED, I GOT THIS”!  There is no need to jump on the 15 groups you belong to on Facebook to reassure yourself.  The minute that you do, you will have 300 different opinions that drive you insane. We all have people in our lives we know and trust.  Seek their advice and use them as a sounding board.  You will gain from their wisdom. Know that YOU matter.  YOU are important.  Focus on YOU each day.  For some that could be prayer, others exercise, reading or picking up a new hobby.  Communicate with your spouse or loved ones on how you feel.  Let them into your world.  Allow yourself to feel their love.  You deserve to feel love every day.  You can’t make your spouse, kids, family, friends and even co-workers happy until you are happy.  When your spirit is filled with love, others will feel your spirit. "Positivity Pledge: I shall no longer allow negative thoughts or feelings drain me of my energy. Instead I shall focus on all the good that is in my life. I will think it, feel it and speak it. By doing so I will send out vibes of positive energy into the world and I shall be grateful for all the wonderful things it will attract into my life." Weight loss begins now. I am 49, a mother of 3, an executive and weigh 340lbs.  I was a former athlete. I was diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation and had brain surgery in 2006. I adopted 3 children, all siblings in 2008.  I have had 3 more surgeries.  I am spiritual, involved with church and volunteer when I can, love photography, yet … I weigh 340lbs. Family photos are fun. I am always the photographer (by choice). Vacations used to be fun, now I hate going to the beach or the pool and swimming was my sport.  Now, let’s flip to work. I am confident, driven and great at what I do, yet … I weigh 340lbs drumroll please ....  my insurance company does not have any surgical or non-surgical weight loss plans.  I can't even take advantage of the nutritional programs or proceed to my referral at the bariatric facility nearby.  Can you feel my tears running down my cheeks?

God brought me to this inspiring woman named Amy Pedersen, CEO of Slimpressions. I fell in love with her story and loved seeing the website.  There is such a great group of people here … much like a family.  Looking at the products, I thought, “Yeah right, how am I going to fit into these?”  I wanted to order one online, but didn’t. What was I afraid of? What is the worst thing that could happen? It doesn’t fit and you send it back with their no hassle guarantee return policy. Then the emotions kick in, depression because you are too big yet … “you have such a beautiful face”, “you have a great heart”, “you are an amazing person” … YES BUT I AM FAT … I weigh 340lbs!
#suprisecomfybralette
Amy surprised me one day with a little brown bag.  Inside it was a Comfy Bralette. I took it home and tried it on and was so excited. It fit perfect.  It was soft, comfortable, supported me in all the right places and gave me so much confidence.  I was shocked … and yet I weigh 340lbs. Real shapewear for Real women! I get it. #Ibelieve I have very dear friend who has lost 180+ lbs. She has been such an inspiration to me personally and professionally.  My family, friends, Amy and Slimpressions are behind me.  What am I waiting for? So I started my diet 4/9/2016 because I am 340lbs. Not just because I failed my first physical ever and my doctor said I had to, but because I need this.  I drove to my prayer group at church last night and as I sat in silence, tears just fell. One by one, like a child slowly turning on a faucet. Soon, I simply lost control of all my emotions and felt naked in my skin bearing my soul in silence to God as he said, “Be Bold. Be Brave.” I opened up to my group and shared my struggle.  They prayed over me and I found continued strength through their healing words.
#strength
I don’t weigh 340lbs. Today I weigh 330lbs.  I have a weight loss of  10lbs in 10 days. This is the first post (of many) you will see of my weight loss journey. My first weight loss goal is 50x50. 50lbs by age 50 which will be coming up at the end of September. Slimpressions is not just a company with products on their website.  They care about OUR journey and are here to cheer us on.  The journey can be weight loss, career driven, family extension, inner healing, or retirement. As a community we all support on another and what better place than to let Slimpressions into your life, like I did mine.  #bebold  #bebrave Please "LIKE THIS" or SHARE so I know you are out there supporting my weight loss journey. I will keep writing, posting and sending prayers and blessings your way.   Dawn  04/19/2016 IMG_4483-e1462242488300 UPDATE : 11/2/16 Update:  Had the Vertical Gastric Sleeve surgery 6/30/16 in Mexico with Dr Illan and have lost 64lbs so far.  Difficult journey, but so worth it!

Statistics show, 8 out 10 women are not happy with what they see in the mirror. Let’s face the facts:
  • 8 million people in the United States suffer from an eating disorder. 90% of these individuals are female.
  • Americans spend more than 40 billion dollars on diet and beauty products a year.
  • It is estimated that 40 to 50% of American women are trying to lose weight at any given point in time.
  • Almost half of all women smokers smoke because they see it as the best way to control their weight. Of these women, 25% will die of a disease caused by smoking.
  • 13.8 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in the United States in 2011. The majority of which were performed on women.
The average American woman is 5’4″ and 140 pounds. Most of us have a disproportionate view of our bodies due to the media, especially advertisements. The current standard of ideal thinness, set by the media, is achieved by less than 5% of the female population. For example:
  • The average American model is 5′11″ and 117 pounds.
  • Twenty years ago, models weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today, they weigh 23% less than the average woman.
We believe that your weight shouldn't determine who you are. Confidence is a mental state. Love your body in every way, shape and form. You ARE beautiful. Encourage yourself to believe this. You have to love yourself, before you can allow others to love you. Sources:
